The practice now has an office at Sim Lim Towers, and a director on the ground. Here is what it means for clients on either side of the corridor.

TaxWise has opened an office in Singapore, at 10 Jalan Besar, #12-11 Sim Lim Towers, Singapore 208787. It joins Bengaluru, which remains the head office, and Chennai.

The office is led from the firm, not franchised out. Vinay Karlagere takes the role of Managing Director across India and Singapore, and the Singapore work is reviewed by the same people who review the Indian work.

What we handle there

The Singapore practice covers the full corporate and personal cycle, rather than a slice of it:

  • Corporate tax filing and planning
  • GST registration and filing
  • ACRA annual compliance and XBRL filing
  • Bookkeeping and management accounts
  • Payroll and CPF administration
  • Personal income tax filing with IRAS
  • Company incorporation and secretarial support
  • Fundraising and financial modelling support

Why an office, and not a referral

Most of our clients are not choosing between India and Singapore. They are operating in both — an Indian group putting a holding company above its South-East Asian operations, or a Singapore company running an Indian subsidiary.

That work is where things usually go wrong, because it is normally split between two firms who each see one half of it. A structure that is efficient in Singapore can be expensive in India, and the person who finds out is the client, a year later.

With people in both markets, the structuring, the tax treatment and the ongoing compliance are handled by one team. Going out, that means Singapore entity setup and ACRA registration, holding structures for outbound investment, RBI and ODI reporting, FEMA compliance, and planning under the India–Singapore treaty. Coming in, it means Indian incorporation, FDI structuring and the entry route, RBI, FEMA and RoC compliance, and transfer pricing and repatriation.
